Welcome Back, Renee!

ReneeThe Children's Ministry is very happy to welcome Renee DeVaney as our Director of Nursery and Parent's Night Out.   Renee served in this position from 2002-2005 before relocating to Austin, and we are so grateful for her return to Plano! Renee is excited to work with our families with young children, and will ensure we continue to have a loving and safe childcare program. Renee is married to Stuart and mom to Kathleen, Morgan, Brandon, and Valerie. She is looking forward to helping develop new family ministry opportunities for our CUMC family. Please help us welcome Renee!

Stewards of Children

Sunday, January 8, 4-7 p.m., Trinity Hall

This spring CUMC will be hosting several events to raise awareness and educate ourselves on what we can do to protect children in our community from abuse. Join us this Sunday for the first seminar for adults. Jane Donovan, CUMC member and Children's Advocacy Center volunteer, will lead this seminar and CEU credits are available. All materials will be provided along with dinner and childcare at no cost. Please register online here.

Children's Network Soup Supper

To show how much we appreciate our volunteers, the Children's Ministry staff would like to invite you to dinner! Come join us for food and fellowship on Monday, February 6, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 107. If you are a parent, volunteer, or just care about the programming for children at CUMC - you are invited! After we eat and visit a bit, we'll talk about the children's events coming up at CUMC including the Easter Egg Hunt and Vacation Bible School. Learn more about what is being planned for the children of CUMC, and how you can get involved in providing a loving and fun ministry. Please invite your friends, too. Extra incentive: we'll reveal this year's VBS theme!

You can RSVP and request childcare for the event by contacting Renee DeVaney.

Created By God

5th and 6th graders can still register for this professionally presented seminar on human sexuality from a Christian perspective. It will be held January 26-28, with the first night being just for parents. You may register online here.   Please contact the Children's Ministry with any questions.

What's Going on in Sunday School in January?

Did you know that the Children's Ministry offers Sunday school at all hours of worship? Our Elementary program offers children a variety of formats to suit their learning styles. Our 8:45 Elementary class for 1st - 5th grades uses Rock Solid curriculum and a traditional classroom. We offer a rotation format at 9:45 for 1st -3rd grades and a special program for 4th & 5th graders called Kids ROCK. Rotation Sunday school is offered for 1st-5th grades at 11:00. If you have an older sibling going through confirmation, we invite you to our 8:45 Sunday school class. We have great teachers and lessons waiting for you!

Two-Year-Olds

Come hear stories about Jesus as a boy as we work our way up to stories about Jesus' early ministry.

Live B.i.G. 3's, 4's and Kindergarten

This month we are hearing stories from Jesus' early years. We'll start in the temple when Jesus was 12 and move on to the beginning of his ministry.

Elementary

The 8:45 1st-5th grade class will be learning about Jesus' early years as well. This month we'll hear the stories about Jesus in the temple, Jesus' baptism, and the call of the disciples.

9:45 and 11:00 rotation classes are exploring Jesus in the temple. We are all loved and should feel comfortable in God's house, just as Jesus did in his father's house. We'll also tie into the current sermon series with devotions on finding God's will in the paths we take.

Kids ROCK (4th and 5th grades at 9:45)

In Kids ROCK we will be focusing on finding direction to correspond with the current sermon series. We will meet some different Bible characters and examine how they found God's direction in their lives.

Family, Pizza & God!

god and family pinIn November and December, 14 Junior Girl Scouts and Webelos from various local troops and dens participated in the God & Family class led by Susan Burden. These smart, hardworking scouts gathered to discover how families are like pizza and earn their religious awards. Through six weeks of study, discussion, games and meeting several different Bible families, they learned how each part of a pizza can remind us how to strengthen our relationship with God and our family in Christ. Each class member memorized the Ten Commandments and discussed ways they can share the love of Christ. Reverend Stacey Piyakhun closed the class, sharing her journey in ministry and some wonderful Biblical insight.

Please join the Children's Ministry in congratulating the following scouts on a job well done (and ask them, "How is a family like a pizza?"): Sydney Allen, C.J. Difiglia, John Farley, Lauren Farley, Emily Kolb, David Leach, Evan Macmillan, Michael McConnell, Emma Piyakhun, Kassidee Smith, Stephanie Tabor, Caroline Thiemann, Koby Watkins, and Blaine Wilkinson.

Mark your calendars for Scout Sunday on February 12 and be sure to wear your uniform to worship and Sunday school!
